United States Revolver Association Shooting

The USRA is the oldest known continuously operating organization for the handgun competition community. It was formed in 1900 to standardize the handgun competition rules etc. in the United States, and to organize International and Olympic handgun competitions

Over the years, the shooting programs of the U.S.R.A. have kept up with the developments in the guns. Semi-automatic pistols began to be used in the pistol matches, and eventually, Free Pistol and Air Pistol matches were introduced as separate matches. In addition, the National Match Course was adopted as a separate match for the .22, centerfire, and .45 caliber revolvers and semi-auto pistols. Some of the types of matches that were unique to the early days of the U.S.R.A. have been retained or revived, but with some minor revisions to the rules.

The USRA runs "postal" that is, by mail, leagues for teams and for indivduals.
(Note: There is a small fee involved to become a USRA member.)

In 2005 Maspenock began entering the .22 Slow Fire Matches
There may be up to 10 members on a team, with the best 5 scorers going toward league standings.
If enough Maspenock members become interested and involved we could sponsor multiple teams.

There are other matches available --Centerfire Slowfire, Centerfire National Match, 45cal Slowfire, Single Action, Double Action, etc.. We hope to be able to become involved in some of these when our new outdoor pistol range is completed in the coming year.

There are 10 weekly matches per series, starting the first of January, but we try to get a few weeks ahead by starting in December.
We meet every Monday evening to shoot our matchs. Members can shoot the match, make up a past match or get a match ahead or even shoot two on a single night. Members can also come at another time to shoot their matches, if they wish.

Scoring is similar to the Maspenock League, using the targets that USRA provides -- targets are signed by the shooter, the scorer and the governor before being filed for the season. If we win, we have to submit our targets.

The great advantage of these matches is the open schedule.
