Tips for better Trap Shooting
  • Make your shotgun fit YOU; don't change your shooting stance to fit your shotgun.
  • Pattern your shotgun and know which choke and load works best for you.
  • Develop a comfortable stance,a consistent gun mount and a smooth swing toward the target.
  • Shoot at a target ONLY when you see the proper "bird/barrel relationship".
  • Procure glasses that help you see the target better (prescription/tint/etc.). Your everyday prescription glasses are not as good as prescription glasses just for trap shooting. Ask your optometist about trap shooting prescription glasses.
  • Keep your head on the stock until after you see the bird break
  • Be confidant -you're more likely to hit the bird when you know you can.
  • Learn to ignore anything that keeps you from focusing on the target.
  • Practice those shots (e.g. hard rights) that give you the most trouble (the Maspenock trap can be set up to this.)
  • Practice, practice, practice!
